The unfortunate senario was painted two day ago at a popular brothel in Umuahia, Abia State capital, as invisible beings, suspected to be ghosts, allegedly invaded and attacked occupants, leaving two persons dead and six others uncouscious.
. .
Situated at Uyo Street, Umuahia, this redlight area is a popular place where girls who are almost nude, dance to entertain guests and patrons.
Daily Sun which brought the report, gathered that the attention of passers-by and other lodgers in the brothel was drawn when live-in prostitutes started running out of the place in the early hours of yesterday. Some of them, it was learnt, narrated how invisible beings dealt them and others deadly slaps and blows.
The owner of the brothel, a lady who used to live in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, before relocating to Umuahia, bought and renovated the building and established the brothel.
The manager of the brothel, a Cameroonian, is said to be among the victims of the mysterious attack and was taken to the Federal Medical Centre unconscious.
Area Commander of Central Police Station, Umuahia, Onyeke Udeviotu, visited the scene to cordon off the place, as a large crowd gathered to have a glimpse of the brothel.
Meanwhile, Three of the four survivors of the ghost attack incident at a hotel in Umuahia, Abia State, have regained consciousness, and narrated their experiences. The hotel manager, a Cameroonian, discovered to be the husband of the proprietor of the hotel, is still at the intensive Unit of the Federal Medical Centre, where doctors are battling to save his life.
A female victim, who gave her name as Chika Obi from Ozubulu, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State and a male victim who gave his name as Ikechukwu Udemba, from Ohuhu, in Umuahia North Local Government Area, said they could not remember what happened to them, but only woke up at the Federal Medical Center Umuahia by noon on Wednesday.
Udemba, alias Obere, who sat up at the Federal Medical Center Hospital bed, waiting to be discharged, said he did not take any drug, contrary to rumours that victims of the attack must have been under the spell of drugs.
The professional driver, who now manages one of the transport companies in Umuahia, said he usually goes to the hotel to cool off after work.
He said: “This was a place we usually stay to drink and watch football, so, on that Tuesday night, I went there as usual, and called one of my brothers to come and meet me there.
“I had not even taken any drink, as to say that I was poisoned through the drink. I went with the food I bought outside into the place to eat, and had not even eaten it nor drank anything in the place before whatever happened occurred. As at the time I came in , I was sitting at the bar, I did not know what transpired. I did not drink anything in that place.
“When I woke up, I saw policemen all over the place and my teeth were tightened and feet, stiff.
“So, those saying that we took drug are not saying the truth.’ Udemba explained.
Another victim of the attack, Ikechukwu Obi said: “I have been residing in that hotel for over six months now. We pay a certain amount of money to the owner of the place. The owner is a woman, popularly known as Madam 50-50. Honestly, I cannot remember what happened, all I can tell you is that I slept in my room as usual, I was alone that night ,because I did not get any client.
“Then, I saw myself here in the hospital. I do not know if it was a spiritual attack. I cannot explain. I do not have any relative here, but I thank God, I survive this mysterious attack, be it spiritual or what. The night to that incident, I did not take any drink at all. Honestly, I did not drink anything. Please, I want to be discharged .I want to go home”, she explained.
The third victim, whose name was given as Kelechi Imogu, was too weak to speak when our reportee visited the hospital.
hails from Ubakala in Umuahia South LGA, Abia state. He was sitting up on his hospital bed, but could not speak. His relatives said he was too weak to speak.
Daily Sun gathered that the owner of the hotel , a nursing mother , who resides in Enugu, has visited the hospital and provided financial assistance to help pay the bills for medical attention given to the affected people.
However, someone who would not want his name in print, told our correspondent that the incident was targeted at throwing the woman out of business and may not be unconnected with the problem which the proprietor was having with Association of Hotel Owners in Umuanhia.
“She was a member of the association, in fact, she was their financial secretary and suddenly, fortune seemed to have started smiling on her . Other members of the association, who felt that she was defrauding them of their money became envious of her , without knowing that the money she was spending was being sent to her by her younger brother she sent abroad.
